Surfing the Po-blogs
Are you new to the blogworld of poetry? Here's a few blogs to check out:

Sarah Sloat has won Second Place in the IBPC poem of the year competition. Head over to The Rain in My Purse and congratulate her.

Julie Carter of Carter's Little Pill invites you to check out poet Steve Kronen. Scroll down to "After Viewing Twelve Versions of Madonna and Child." You won't be sorry.

Michi Gabriel is offering to name your next poem.

The somewhat weird Arlene Ang wonders why her parents named her something they couldn't pronounce.

The exceptionally weird Radish King is terrorized by her own deranged knee.

Sarah, Blogger hates Internet Explorer. If you'll download firefox (for free) many of your blogger troubles will go away.

Check out our blogger help group on google groups for more info on daily problems with blogger.

I instituted ads last week in an attempt to earn enough to buy a dedicated server and get away from blogger. So far, I'm at 62 cents. 400 more years, and I'm outta here.

ah but it has been slow lately, and commenting often impossible, and i *only* use firefox. had the "waiting-for-it-to-publish" problem only once though, a couple of months ago.

carl, you're lucky it isn't 50 cents. *G*

My guess is Pyra can't handle the growth that accompanied their acquisition by Google. Once the load-sharing software starts to crash, everything stops. Hopefully Google will give them the resources they need to handle the traffic.

In other news: I think Sarah has claimed "50-cent" for herself. If I must have a rapper name, 'd like to be "bad-cent."

Which rapper name would you choose?

Hi Carl, have you tried Wordpress? It is free and you get tagging and can attach pages. And you don't have to be a techhie to use it (my 10 and 15 year old daughters each have a wordpress blog).

Never heard that about blogger and IE before. I thought Google did everything for IE first and then tacked on Firefox as a kind of afterthought when everyone had a go at them for not supporting FF?

all my best
Maxine.

IE doesn't interpret css divisions properly, nor does it accurately calculate widths. It accepts invalid html code and tries to interpret them. Firefox does none of this.

Firefox isn't integrated into windows like ie, so it's more secure. Most web savvy folks use it.

Google's promoting firefox because they've recently bundled the google toolbar with the default mozilla firefox installation.

Google purchased pyra (which runs blogger) but pretty much all techies recommend firefox - including the old pyra techs before the acquisition.

As to wordpress, it's a decent script, and easily customizable. I'd rather host it on a server I own myself than host it on free space at wordpress.org. php scripts tend to eat cpu cycles, and I fear they'll inherent blogger's problems if folks flee to wordpress.
